Lou Reed - Berlin European Tour
In 2007 the New London Children's Choir were asked to be the backing choir for the legendary Lou Reed on his "Berlin European Tour" which would include a number of concerts in various European cities at major venues. Asked again this year to perform with him and his band due to their 'professionalism' and 'quality of singing'. The repertoire performed were songs from his 'Berlin' album which included; 'Sad Song', 'Bed', 'Walk on the Wild Side', 'Caroline Says', and 'Satellite of Love'.
The Tour lasts about six weeks and selected senior choir singers perform at any one time for a few concerts and then have changeovers. In the run up to the tour the choir practise the songs at rehearsals with Ronald Corp (Artistic Director) and then with Lou Reed and his band at studios before the whole tour gets officially underway. It is a wonderful opportunity for all those who take part; where the choir have been able to experience large scale concerts first hand and also perform in commercial work broadening their scope of where singing can take them and develop as talented choiristers in different genres of work. There is also some 'down time' fitted in, sightseeing of the cities visited and hopefully forming some firm friendships too. The choir are chaperoned and supervised the whole time they are on tour.
The 2008 Tour saw the choir travelling to Cork, Belfast, Edinburgh, Nottingham, London, Paris, Zurich, Munich, Vienna, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Tallinn, Riga, Brussels, Lisbon, Loule and Malaga.
