A founding aim of the Choir has been to commission new works for children’s voices from the leading lights in contemporary music, as well as up-and-coming young composers. To date the Choir has commissioned over 40 new works by a diverse selection of composers including Simon Bainbridge, Howard Skempton, Judith Bingham, Joseph Phibbs, Andrew Simpson, and Param Vir. A new work by Oscar Bettison was performed at the Wigmore Hall – the first childen’s choir concert ever at this prestigious venue.
The Choir has also given the premières of numerous works by composers including Gerald Barry, Louis Andriesson, Tan Dun, Alexander Goehr and Sally Beamish. Ronald Corp, himself an accomplished and published composer has written numerous works which have entered the Choir’s repertoire.
The Choir will continue to commission new works and aims to present these at a large-scale concert in a London venue every year. In 2013 at the Aldeburgh Festival we shall be giving the first performances of a specially commissioned set of new songs by Sally Beamish, Charlotte Bray, Anna Meredith and Thea Musgrave.
